Weekend Breaks in Portugal

English Football fans may have an antipathy towards Portugal following the manner of their team's exit from the last two major tournaments, but sporting rivalries aside, Portugal still represents a great place to visit for a weekend break.

Lisbon (Lisboa) is Portugal's stunning capital that straddles the banks of the River Tagus. Visit the cosmopolitan seaside resort of Cascais and soak up the glorious sun, or take a trip into the Arrabida Hills and explore the amazing nature reserves. You won't be short of nightlife either - Lisbon is packed with plenty of bars and discos.

Take a trip into Estoril where you will enjoy the top quality gold facilities, excellent casino and of course, the world famous Formula One racing track

Travel to Portugal's southern most point and you will be in the Algarve - home to amazing beaches and sun all year round. This is the perfect place to top up your tan and get that Portugese look. Its coastal location is reflected in the local cuisine - fish soups and sea food are particularly enjoyed in this part of Portugal.

Portugal is easy to get to, with international airports in Lisboa, Porto, Faro, Funchal, Ponta Delgada and Lajes. International trains run from Paris to Lisbon, and Madrid to Lisbon
